A talk in English by Professor Dyfrig Hughes, sponsored by Wireless in Wales
Friday, 30th October 2020, 7:00 PM
Hydroxychloroquine, a treatment for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and the antimalarial chloroquine, were hailed as potential treatments for Covid-19 following work by a French doctor, Didier Raoult, during the early stages of the pandemic. US president Donald Trump touted the drug as a cure for Covid-19, and many countries made stockpiles to ensure supply. This talk will take you through a journey of bad science, fake science, some tragic deaths and political interference in rise and fall of (hydroxy)chloroquine for Covid-19.

Cantre’r Gwaelod – The Welsh Atlantis
Talk in English by Mike Farnworth
Friday, 12th February 2021, 7:00 PM
All around the world there are persistent legends of lands lost below the sea. Wales is no exception to this rule. The story of Cantre’r Gwaelod tells of a rich, low-lying land which has vanished below Cardigan Bay. It is said that bells can be heard on stormy nights, ringing beneath the waves.

This illustrated talk tells the Cantre’r Gwaelod story itself, considers how it might have originated, looks at the way it has been preserved in the memory of the Welsh nation, and shows how a nearby part of modern Wales is in danger of vanishing in the same way.
